I’m 1/3rd of the way through The Leavers (mostly on audio!). It’s pretty complex and dark, about an eleven-year-old Chinese American boy whose mother disappears without a trace, so he ends up with white parents. I don’t feel like I’ve read enough to have a solid opinion yet – there are so many directions this story could take! So far it’s about race and legacy and betrayal and memory and identity and loneliness and grief.
