Let’s talk about the APEX.
Builder Gel can be used to build an apex on your nail to help reinforce your nails and to create a smooth, rounded look.
The apex, the highest point on the nail structure, is placed at the stress area of the nail (usually the upper third of the nail plate).
This is the area most prone to pressure and bending from everyday activities, so you’ll want to strengthen it especially if you’re on a longer nail journey.
Building your apex has structural/strength benefits as well as aesthetic benefits:
Structural benefits
Structurally, building an apex:
-
Protects against breakage - it helps your nails withstand impact, reduces cracks/breaks and lifting.
-
Enhances durability - it provides strength and flexibility as nail grows
-
Nail reinforcements for enhancements - longer length = increased strain on nail.
-
Protects natural nail - against thinning, peeling, discomfort
Aesthetic benefits
Aesthetically, building an apex creates a natural and balanced look to your natural nail with a plump appearance that complements your natural nail beds
Take a look at your nail from a side view to determine where you might need to fill in some divots or bumps in your nail with builder gel.
The goal is to create a smooth, rounded surface from the side view.
If your nails are flatter, an apex can help support your nail with an apex at your stress point.
If you nails have dramatic ridges or divots, builder gel can help smooth the appearance of the nail.
If your nails slope upward, you can build an apex to create a more rounded look.
Do I need to build an apex?
Not necessarily ! If your natural nails are shorter, you probably do not need to build an apex.
The strength of builder gel alone can offer structure support to your natural nails.
Very short nails may have an unnaturally plump look with an apex and do not need one for their length, so we don’t recommend it.
