Let’s quickly go over a few common dip application issues and how to prevent them and fix them so you can have a perfect Dip Mani every time.
If your dip is lifting around the edges, make sure your Base Coat isn’t touching the skin or sidewalls. Leave a small gap, and file away any lifted areas as soon as you notice them.
If your dip looks lumpy, wavy, or uneven, you may be applying too much Base Coat. Use thin, even layers, and avoid double-dipping. Also, remember to swirl your powder before dipping to keep it fluffy and evenly distributed. If you don’t swirl your powder, your mani can get lumpy after you dip it.
Seeing shiny spots after dipping? Make sure you dip immediately after applying the Base Coat so it fully contacts the powder.
If you’re getting an orange-peel texture or little pits, you may need a little more Activator or more buffing. Apply a medium-thick layer of Activator, then use the coarse side of your buffer followed by the smooth side in circular motions.
For a dull finish or low shine, make sure you’re apply Dip Base Coat after activator and before you buff. Always ensure you are using enough Top Coat and buffing the surface properly. Aim for a medium-thick layer without flooding the nail.
If you notice lifting at the free edge or cuticle, avoid over-filing and keep product from pooling. Always start your application in the center of the nail and gently push the brush toward the base.
And that’s it! A few small technique adjustments can make a big difference in getting that smooth, long-lasting dip finish.
